While the state of Wisconsin often gets chided for its mass market offerings of rubbish like Miller and Schlitz, the state, like most, has undergone a transformation to its beer culture in the last two decades and now plays home to dozens of craft and microbreweries that can rival any state.

The Potosi Brewing Company, located near the banks of the Mississippi River near the borders of both Iowa and Illinois, is a perfect example of the work this brewery and the state of Wisconsin is doing to kill the aforementioned, now inaccurate, prejudice with regards to its sudsy additions to the beer lexicon.

For $12, you’re not going to do much better in a brewery tour in Wisconsin or around the world. That $12 will get you four, five-ounce beer samples in the Brewery Tasting Room, a Potosi pint glass from the gift shop and one pint of the Potosi tap beer of your choice, as well as a year-long membership to the National Brewery Museum & Library.

On to the beer: The Potosi Brewing Company has a core group of offerings which include its hoppy Snake Hollow IPA, flavorful Good Old Potosi Golden Ale and, my personal favorite, the delectable (Amber) Cave Ale. The company also offers a couple of wooden barrel offerings in addition to a number of seasonal flavors including its Candy Dancer Porter just in time for Christmas.
