It’s set to be a great summer of sport in France, with the European Football Championships coming to town, along with regular fixtures like the Tour de France and Roland Garros.
The latter is one of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments in the world, and understandably draws the biggest names in the sport to a stadium complex just outside the French capital, Paris. The clay courts have proven a successful hunting ground for Rafael Nadal in recent years, but he was deposed by Stan Wawrinka in the 2015 tournament.
Current world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is sure to mount a strong challenge again this year after being defeated in the finals the past two years. Even those who aren’t traditionally the biggest fans of tennis will appreciate the sport as they watch it live rather than on television.
Roland Garros sits on the outskirts of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with plenty of attractions to keep you busy apart from sport. A visit to Paris has something for everyone, and you could even tack on a short trip around France.
This year’s championship will run from May 22 to June 5, and with Euro 2016 set to kick off June 10, visitors to France are in for a sporting summer of epic proportions.
