Melissa Tait checks in weekly from her study abroad semester in Rome; catch up with her every Wednesday on Trazee Travel.
As my semester in Rome is coming to an end, I am trying to spend as much time in the beautiful city as I can. Lately, I loved walking around and discovering new piazzas, eating Italian sweets and grabbing aperitivo.

This week, my friend and I strolled by the Tiber River, ready to hunt down a cannoli. We were in search of a place recommended to us, but found another option sure to please our taste buds. We chose our cannoli shell and desired topping and he filled it with cream in front of us. It was my first cannoli in Italy and it is safe to say it will not be my last.

After indulging in our sweet cannoli, we decided to stop for aperitivo. This is the Italian’s take on happy hour, where you buy a drink and also get a small plate of food. Every restaurant has their own aperitivo — some are buffet style (my fave!) and others are a set plate of small bites. We found a place close to our residence that has become our go-to spot for a quick and cheap aperitivo.
Whether wandering around the beautiful cobblestone streets of Rome or stuffing myself with Italian eats, my last few weeks will be spent soaking up my Italian favorites.
