Owned and operated by Royal Caribbean International, Majesty of the Seas first launched in 1969. The Majesty of the Seas was the first vessel to bring rock climbing, surfing and onboard ice-skating to the sea. From the beginning, it seems the Majesty was a family-oriented ship.

Onboard my first Royal Caribbean cruise, I most looked forward to a day on the private-island CocoCay in Nassau, Bahamas, and all the land excursions I could fit in.

Our cruise started with a whirlwind of sales pitches. The minute you walk onboard, various vendors approach offering drink package sales, excursion information, vessel events and various items for sale. My colleague and I looked for our stateroom to get away for a minute and put down some of our things, but it wasn’t ready so we sat in the buffet, Windjammer, and had a light lunch.

We eventually got to our rooms to put down our things and the room pleasantly surprised me. I was happy to have a view of the ocean, my own bathroom, closet, desk, nightstand and a queen-sized bed.

I quickly changed for our dinner and took an impromptu tour of the boat, exploring the different levels of the ship. We found space at the Schooner Bar, my favorite design. We listened to the piano, played trivia and awaited dinner.

The weather was not its best over the course of our trip and we weren’t able to stop at CocoCay, but, as I was told by a fellow passenger, guests on this ship weren’t too concerned with getting off the boat. In short, if you enjoy cruise culture and onboard activities on a smaller Royal Caribbean vessel, the Majesty may be one you should consider.
