Safety

Solo travel has become an increasingly popular travel trend ever since travelers discovered the benefits: setting your own schedule, having flexibility with last-minute changes and enjoying solitary peace and quiet along the way. Some destinations, however, aren’t as suited for solo travelers as others due to safety, costs and excursion options. The list below features a handful of countries that welcome solo travelers with open arms.

Hong Kong

The thrilling city on the South China Sea is a place to both ramp up and relax. Take the tram up to the famous peak for a stunning view of the city skyline and the harbor, or take a ferry daytrip to one of the nearby islands of Lantau or Lama where hiking and beaches await. Due to the high number of visitors, solo travelers will rarely feel isolated.

Switzerland

For a solitary getaway, Switzerland is calling. Rolling hilly landscapes and peaceful lakes set a scene for rest and repose among the incredible Alps. Hit the slopes for a day of skiing and then après-ski with locals and other travelers. The friendly demeanor of the Swiss makes it easy for foreigners to feel welcome.

Costa Rica

This oft-visited nation in Central America is constantly saturated with travelers who love the outdoors, making it easy to acquaint oneself with the tourism scene. Zip lining, surfing and jungle hikes are perfect for groups of solo travelers.

Australia

Friendly people, relaxing beaches and the outdoor adventure make Australia ideal for traveling solo. In the cities, you can feel safe exploring the streets on your own. If you’re eager to meet friends, sign up for a tour through the Outback.
