Save your phone’s battery next time you are out and about and away from your charger with Lifeboat, an external battery pack that clips to the back of any smartphone. Once connected to the smartphone, Lifeboat automatically boosts the phone’s battery to 15 percent anytime it falls below so your phone is able to get some much-needed juice without the hassle of finding a charger.

More than a charger, Lifeboat is designed to support people in emergency situations with its panic button feature, including its own GPS locator. With this function, the device enables owners to send their location to a pre-defined phone number or 911. Lifeboat will always save enough battery to allow owners to use the panic button. Owners can store up to five predefined mobile numbers and text all of them when the panic button is activated.

“Delhi is not known for being the safest place, and one night my wife took the subway home at 11 p.m. by herself. Her phone died and it was just one big hair-pulling fiasco. I created Lifeboat as a way to help protect her, and we want to share it with everyone,” said Joginder Tanikella, founder, Vajra InfraTech Ltd., creator of Lifeboat.

Lifeboat features a dedicated mobile app compatible with iOS, Android and Windows smartphones. The app is able to monitor the status of the battery, alerting the device to begin the charging process when the battery drops below 15 percent.

With the app, users are able to manually select what threshold they want Lifeboat to start charging and view the status of the battery’s power bank. The app notifies owners when the power bank itself is charging.

Vajra InfraTech Ltd. is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to support the launch of Lifeboat through July 19. Backers can pre-order the early-bird Lifeboat for $49 and expect to receive orders by November.
