With the advent of cloud storage, you don’t really hear much fanfare about new hard drives. While services like Dropbox, Google Drive and Carbonite are convenient and reliable, it’s network coverage that can be spotty for travelers who have a lot of files they need to access on the go.
Unlike the bulky drives of yore, the Seagate Seven is a high-quality, compact device perfect for your carry-on. Housed in a stainless steel enclosure, the Seven is the thinnest hard disk drive available, measuring at exactly seven millimeters and smaller than an iPhone 6+. It weighs in at a paltry 178 grams thanks to its superb engineering, utilizing a 5mm disk on a 500GB platter. The chassis has a USB 3.0 port, and comes packaged with a braided cable.
The drive is formatted to the exFAT system for both Windows and Mac computers, though the Seagate’s hard drive software Dashboard is Windows only. This program lets you dictate how you want your files backed up, whether by drive, file type, folder or on a predetermined schedule. Users can also back up files from their mobile Android and iOS devices, as well as from Flickr and Facebook.
The Seagate Seven is priced at just less than $100. Learn more about the hard drive at seagate.com.
