Trends / Health & Wellness

Spas aren’t a new trend, but spa experiences inspired by and curated to coincide with moon cycles is indeed an avant-garde endeavor.

It’s long been believed lunar cycles impact the human body and mind, and more than 60 published studies have been done to examine its effects on psychological conditions and fertility alone. Based on these studies and various realms of belief, several luxury hotel spas harness the different phases of the moon to create healing and restorative treatments, aimed at improving overall physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

For example, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende in Mexico offers an experience drawing from ancient herbal remedies applied through different types of healing massage, meanwhile teaching guests how these remedies work to alleviate symptoms caused by the present moon phase.

The Spirit of the Moon treatment at Mii Amo Resort and Spa in Sedona, Ariz., is only offered during the new moon, as Native American tradition holds the new moon is the best time for manifesting one’s deepest desires. The treatment involves guests writing their intentions for the coming months before being treated to a cleansing footbath and body massage.

In Bali, guests staying at Oazi Spa Villas can partake in the Tilem – Nurture of the Dark Moon experience, including a Balinese massage, body mask and scrub, all coinciding with the time period between the new moon and dark moon.

The Palms Turks and Caicos harness the power of the moon by offering several treatments performed on the beach at night under the stars.

Say what you will about the new trend — people pick up what lunar spas put down.
