Tips / Destination

The charming German city draws in visitors with its art, fashion and culture. Here are some of the top places to stay on your trip.

If you are traveling on a budget and want to bunk down in a dorm, there are a number of options. Backpackers Düsseldorf does exactly what it says on the tin, while City Youth Hostel Düsseldorf welcomes travelers to its sleekly designed, clean rooms.

For those who are looking for a unique place to stay, check out Hutte 91. This centrally located guesthouse bills itself as “a modern place designed from artists, designers or comic drawers,” and the interior does not disappoint. Strong design details and some impressive murals make this a great option for anyone looking for something different.

Moving into small hotel territory is Max Hotel Garni. This 11-room bolt hole features contemporary design and is just a few hundred meters from the famous Konigsallee shopping street.

Hotel Friends is another mid-range option with interesting interior design and a 24-hour bar. There are good views over the city from the lounge on the seventh floor.

Many of the hotels in Düsseldorf are aimed at business travelers, due to the frequency of trade conference and expos hosted in the city. This means prices can skyrocket when a big event is on, so look for better deals during the summer and on weekends.

Time it right and you could end up with a charming boutique hotel to use as a base to explore the city, and all at a bargain price.

Discover Intangible Riches on Inspiring Milestone Trips the World Over

It’s a truth universally acknowledged: Not every trip is created equal. Some are for family or social obligations, where the tropical island remains largely unexplored in lieu of birthday lunches, rehearsal dinners or your cousin’s graduation ceremony. Others are strictly business, where the nearby ski resort seems as hypothetical as your Q4 plans on the whiteboard in the corporate boardroom. Of course, the best trips are strictly for pleasure — the long-awaited vacation you’ve plotted (and saved airline miles) for months on end.
