Strange and Functional: Furoshiki by Vibram

They certainly look strange, but the Furoshiki shoe from Italian brand Vibram is a highly functional piece of footwear.

Vibram is famous for its FiveFingers range which features separated toes, and now the company has come up with another innovative design based on traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. Perhaps the best way to explain the Furoshiki is as a rubber sole attached to long pieces of stretchy fabric which wrap around the foot.

The fact that the sole is the only rigid part of the shoe means the Furoshiki easily adapts to every different foot type, and the Velcro clasp system makes it easy to use. While no one is suggesting you use the Furoshiki in heavy-duty environments, the rubber phalanges up the sides do offer some measure of protection for your foot. Vibram outsoles are often used on top-of-the-range outdoor shoes from other brands, so you can be sure you are getting a quality product.

Vibram has made the shoes foldable, and they pack into a tiny package that could almost fit in your pocket. The Furoshiki offers comfort and a great conversation piece!

If you’re looking for something different from a pair of shoes and have $110 to spare, pick up a pair of the Furoshiki from various outdoor retailers.
