Hotels.com’s 2025 Hotel Room Innsights survey looked at hundreds of properties across the world to see what tech is showing up in hotel rooms, how travelers are responding to new hotel tech and what tech hotels most want to invest in in the future.

A few of the survey’s most interesting findings?

The survey said approximately 50 percent of hotels now require staff to verbally walk guests through the tech they can expect in their guestrooms upon check-in. This tracks with the survey’s finding that 70 percent of hotel guests prefer to speak to a human at both check-in and when needing assistance during their stay.

As for what tech hotels add to their rooms currently, trends lean toward convenience and comfort. Hotels are prioritizing features such as smart fans, smart TVs and customizable lighting, though they are looking at more ways they can utilize AI and robotics, with the addition of AI concierge services and robots that could replace human restaurant, housekeeping and groundskeeping staff.

The study also found there’s one part of the guestroom where tech is taking priority, and that’s the bathroom. Smart mirrors, smart shower heads and voice-activated bathtubs are all becoming popular.
