A newly acquired member of the Curio Collection by Hilton, The Campbell House Lexington is a staple among the few nicer accommodation options in Lexington, Ky. Most visitors to the city are there for one of two things — the surrounding horse country or college sports, mainly basketball. The property allows for close proximity to both of these. However, in addition to being a popular accommodation choice, The Campbell House Lexington is also a frequent contender for events, weddings and parties in the area.
While the location is convenient, it’s not perfect, as it’s not within walking distance of any dining or shopping, but there is an adjacent, on-site golf course and the hotel restaurant and bar are both satisfactory. Kilbern’s Restaurant has won awards for their southern fare and Bogart’s Lounge frequently features live music from local musicians and offers plenty of bourbon. The lounge is also a good choice for small parties, as it offers an intimate feel within a reasonably stylish atmosphere. If you still find yourself wanting to go further downtown for drinks and dining, there is a complimentary hotel shuttle.
The newly renovated rooms feature some new upgrades, including leather accents and extra seating in the moderately-sized rooms. There is a general overall Southern equestrian theme throughout the hotel, which is fitting and also lends the décor a somewhat masculine feel. Both WiFi and parking are complimentary, which is to be appreciated, although there’s no valet option, which doesn’t quite befit the luxury feel for which the hotel aims. Pets are allowed on the premises, but I did not find this to be disturbing or disrupting, as I have at other properties.
Overall, I expect The Campbell House Lexington, which has a long history of multiple owners, to thrive as part of the Curio Collection, which should give the hotel exactly what it needs to stand out from other similar properties in the region.
