The Shift in International Travel Destinations

Considering the volatile state of the world as of late, it would not be shocking for travelers to be reluctant to go on their long-awaited holidays or re-book their stays in safer locations. However, despite recent terror attacks in Paris, Brussels and areas of Turkey, along with a fast-growing presence of the Zika virus, studies show Americans are not wavering when it comes to travel plans.

Data from travel agents through North America show Canadians and Americans are still traveling, but some have switched their destinations from cities in Europe to the tropical beaches of the Caribbean or other points further south. Travelers who are wary of exposure to the Zika virus are opting to visit northern destinations like Alaska or northern Canada.

With low gas prices, travelers are also considering domestic holidays to locations they can access by car or a quick plane ride. Falling gas prices means travelers have more money to spend on other aspects of their vacations, thus boosting the tourism industry as a whole.

Although the willingness of travelers to take their vacations is not faltering in the days of terrorism and disease, specific locations and regions have been affected and will take time to entice future visitors.
