Reviews / Hotel

This year marks the fifth consecutive year my mom and I have taken a mother/daughter vacation, so we decided to change things up and venture somewhere a little different — compared to our traditional Caribbean destinations.

Miami was at the top of our list, as it boasts white sand, warm weather, prime foodie destinations, shopping and the infamous South Beach. We flew down early Thursday morning and arrived at the St. Regis Bal Harbor Resort by noon. As soon as we arrived we were handed a glass of rosé Champagne and a red rose — making me think I was on an episode of The Bachelor rather than vacation.

The hotel as a whole has a contemporary style featuring Art Deco elements. The front desk informed us our rooms were already available and we proceeded, along with the bellman, up to the sixth floor.

Our room had luxury written all over. When I walked in I couldn’t contain my excitement. A properly placed desk and mirror was located in the foyer area of the room. To the right of the desk was a long hallway with large wall-to-floor sliding doors. Upon opening the doors, on the right it revealed a luxurious master five-fixture marble tub, a separate rainfall marble shower and a dual-sink vanity with an attached wall mirror. You can lounge in the lavish tub while watching the large flat-screen TV. On the left side of the hallway was the restroom and another vanity. Across from the shower area was a mini hallway, almost like a walk-in-closet, with many mirrored sliding doors and drawers, one contained an in-room safe. I have to say one of my favorite features was the intelligent control butler service that powered all of the lights as well as the sheers and curtains.

We stayed in a deluxe ocean-view room with a king bed, which featured a 210-square-foot individual balcony. The room was extremely spacious as it also included a chair and desk, minibar, a TV stand, a mounted flat-screen TV, two bedside tables with built-in electrical outlets and lamps, a cocktail table and a small round couch shaped perfectly against the wall. The balcony had two wicker lounge chairs separated by a table, as well as a round dining table and two patio chairs. We had the perfect spot to admire the incredible view while enjoying our in-room dining.

My mom and I were able to take full advantage of all of the wonderful amenities the resort has to offer, such as the Remêde Spa, the athletic club, the beach and oceanfront pools and their exquisite hotel dining.

Guests are able to sunbath by either the adult or family infinity pool. The St. Regis also offered guests the opportunity to relax on their private white-sand beach under a cabana or on a daybed.

Being unfamiliar with the area and various dining options to choose from, we consulted with the concierge, Giselle, who we found to be extremely helpful. After a brief discussion, her restaurant choices matched our tastes to perfection.

From the moment I arrived to the minute I left, I was made aware the staff at the St. Regis in Miami would meet the needs of even the most discerning traveler. St. Regis presents a new level of luxury and the hotel far exceeded my expectations. I am already looking forward to making my next trip back.

Going the Distance: Which Airports Have the Longest Walks?

You’re in between flights and ready to find a coffee and your next gate and settle in. But then you find the signs to your gate and look down the impossibly long corridor and wonder how you managed to have the gate at the opposite end of the airport.
