The world is a scary place, especially as of late with outbreaks of violence scattered around the globe. Planning a vacation becomes a game of finding the least likely place to experience political unrest or potential terror targets, but even that can change on a daily basis. Thankfully for travelers looking for peaceful getaways, the Global Peace Index presents a list of the safest countries to visit in any given year. See below for a few spots that made the list for 2016.
Iceland
Iceland came in at No. 1 among the world´s safest countries. The island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean is situated just far enough away to exclude itself from any global conflict.
New Zealand
The land next to the land Down Under hardly ever experiences internal or external issues, which leaves plenty of time and energy to enjoy the capital of outdoor adventure.
Switzerland
Famous for its neutral stance in history´s world affairs, Switzerland is not only safe, but its location among the Alps and some of the world´s most beautiful scenery also contribute to a truly peaceful holiday.
Japan
