Tips for Your First Ghost Hunting Expedition

Whether you’re a believer or a skeptic, investigating haunted locations is a fun activity. Here’s what the “experts” say about going on a ghost hunt.

Choose a Location

Local legends are filled with bridges, hospitals, parks and cemeteries where paranormal activity is rumored to happen. Find a location that isn’t going to be too scary for you; a dark cemetery might be more doable than an old mental hospital.

Research the Target

Find out who the ghost was and what they look like. Some are said to only appear at certain times or in certain locations. Some people report hearing voices, so you might need to bring recording devices. Some less accessible locations might be dangerous and require additional equipment.

Tool Up

Get someone good with AV who can record and take pictures, in addition to working with EMF detectors, which measures the ambient electromagnetic fields, which ghost hunters believe correlate with the presence of the paranormal. Someone should also be able to organize and analyze the data after.

Assemble Your Team

Assign someone as the safety/tactical guy to make sure everyone stays away from danger, like avoid obstacles and plotting the route back home. Ghost hunters also recommend having a skeptic around, not to remain objective, but because they are usually the last to become possessed.
