Tips for Hosting Friendsgiving

If you and your friends can’t (or don’t want) to make it home for the holidays, a Friendsgiving lets you spend the day with the people you like most. However, hosting a giant feast for several or even quite a few of your friends can get stressful. Here are some tips to make it easy.

Share the work. Just because you’re the host, don’t feel like you have to take on all the responsibility by yourself. Assign tasks out (nicely) to some of your closest friends, who’ll be happy to help if you give them tasks suited to their dispositions.

Focus on what matters. If you don’t have perfectly situated fall floral arrangements adorning your table, your friends will likely never notice (particularly if you’re not the kind of person to have floral arrangements around your house on a normal day). If you buy, instead of make, the dinner rolls from scratch, no one will mind. It’s about spending great time with your friends that matters, not getting every little detail right.

Do provide the star of the show. As the host, though, you do need to at least do everyone the courtesy of providing the turkey. After all, have you ever tried transporting a cooked turkey? It’s just easier to make and devour the thing in one spot. Cooking a turkey is not difficult, though, and you can find plenty of tips here.

Don’t forget some of the tiny things. While table runners and name cards aren’t as important, items like napkins, silverware and ice are pretty crucial. Stock up on festive paper napkins (or get some affordable cloth ones at a discount store) and use heavy-duty plastic cutlery or, again, consult your local discount store for a cheap, reusable option.
