Packing is an art; packing lightly, however, some may say is nearly impossible. If you find yourself returning home from a trip with a suitcase half full of clean clothes in your suitcase, you may need to reevaluate your packing skills.
How does one determine what you leave at home and what you bring? Follow our tips on packing lightly for a less stressful experience.
Think Like A Minimalist
Pack only one week’s worth of clothes. Lay them out and have a designated day which you will wear the specific outfit. Try to mix-and-match outfits by making sure all bottoms, tops and shoes match multiple items. While it may be difficult, there is no need for six pairs of shoes. Choose a pair that is comfortable and versatile and if necessary pack one dressier option.
Invest in Packing Cubes
They are a great way to stay organized and help clothes from getting wrinkled. These are especially beneficial for a lengthy adventure, helping to avoid unpacking and repacking.
Stick to the Essentials
Take only the most basic supplies in travel-size quantities. Ask yourself why you are packing every item; if you start with ‘what if,’ chances are you may not actually need it.
Wear the Bulkiest Items During Travel
You can clear plenty of space in your bag if you wear an extra layer on the plane.
Think about it, do you really want to be lugging around a 70-pound suitcase? You pack it, you carry it.
