Many couples choose to host a destination wedding within easy travel of their hometown. Those who live in the States often choose a favorite stateside destination, or a nearby country, such as a Caribbean island or Mexican beach. These come with their own sets of challenges. However, for those wanting to go a bit further for their big day, a few other things need to be considered to make it happen.
First and foremost, cost needs to factor into your decision. Whatever your budget, it will help determine how far you can really go. There is, after all, quite a lot of difference between airfare to London and airfare to Beijing.
You also need to consider your guests. With an undertaking of this proportion, you’ll want to whittle down your guest list to the bare minimum. Many of your friends and even your relatives will not want to travel around the world for your wedding, unfortunately, whether it’s because they don’t have the funds, time or simply the interest. Asking them to can be not only inconsiderate, but can also put someone into an uncomfortable spot. Keep the guest list to parents, siblings and possibly a best friend. In addition, consider paying for the airfare of those who you feel it may be a burden.
When planning a short-distance destination wedding, you’ll soon see these locations are quite adept at hosting destination-wedding parties, as they do it all the time. When you start planning a wedding in less-popular destinations for American wedding parties, you may run into a few snags. Don’t be discouraged — simply look for resorts offering wedding packages, and explain you’ll be traveling from another country for the event. Many are more than willing to assist you.
Keep in mind every country has different marriage laws. It’s easier to host a legally binding ceremony in your hometown at the courthouse before you head out for your celebratory ceremony. No need to tell anyone, or make it a big deal. Just bring along two witnesses and your marriage license. This leaves you free to customize your actual wedding day however you like, without worrying about the legality issues.
Consider combining your wedding destination with your honeymoon. Many resorts and hotels offer special deals if you decide to do this, and it will allow you to truly relax without worrying about hopping on a plane after your ceremony to reach a different destination.
Lastly, before picking your destination, really think about where you want to go. Think not only about the destination’s culture and tourism offerings, but also about the weather, holidays and affordability.

Insta FeedAre You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?
Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
