For years, those with sophisticated palates mercilessly looked down upon humble airline food. Times have changed, though, and airlines are offering meals designed by celebrity chefs alongside award-winning wines. You don’t have to pay for first class to get something edible, though. Here are some the best in the world for economy-class dining, as chosen by Skytrax.
Asiana Airlines
Asiana Airlines has won multiple awards for their in-flight Korean fare inspired by the same cuisine travelers will find in Seoul. Many passengers love the bibimbap (a hot rice dish with a variety of veggie and protein toppings), which just recently received an upgrade to incorporate fresh ingredients and new flavors.
Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines serves up Mediterranean flavors with a flair, from more traditional Turkish foods to menu items that are a bit more friendly for the picky eater. In addition to meal service, passengers on long-haul flights will also have the option of a sandwich and cake.
Thai Airways
It shouldn’t take saying that if you don’t like Thai food, you may not be overly thrilled with the Thai Airways menu, though there will still be options for you. However, if you do like Thai food, you’re in for a treat. The menu highlights local and fresh produce, and changes seasonally.
Garuda Indonesia
Garuda Indonesia upgraded its menus, allowing you to choose from Indonesian, Asian and Western dining options. The airline’s economy class has won other awards as well, promising an overall enjoyable flight.
Singapore Airlines
Singapore Airlines offers menu items from all over the globe. What you end up with depends upon your departure and arrival destinations. Start your flight off with a signature cocktail, then sit back and wait for dinner and dessert.
