Escaping from the city for a quick getaway in Westchester County this season? If so, here are five ways to experience the arts in this charming region, situated just a short train ride or drive from New York City.

ArtsWestchester is headquartered in a historic landmark building in White Plains. ArtsWestchester provides arts programming and events to the entire region. Step in to check out the multiple galleries, all focused on artists with a Westchester connection. Be sure to check the organization’s calendar as well to see if you can catch a new exhibition, workshop or performance.

Located at Purchase College State University of New York, Neuberger Museum of Art houses more than 6,000 works, from crowd favorites like Georgia O’Keefe and Jackson Pollock.

This spring, through June 26, Katonah Museum of Art hosts a unique exhibit entitled Constant Carnival: The Haas Brothers in Context. The Haas Brothers’ sculptures and drawings are varied, with both historical and contemporary masterworks exploring both styles through the lens of the European Carnival tradition. The other exhibitions on display are just as whimsical.

If you only have a limited amount of time, stop into this church in the historic Hudson Valley to view the stained-glass windows commissioned by the Rockefellers. The impressive collection includes Henri Matisse’s last work, Rose Window.

Hudson Valley MOCA oversees a 12,000-square-foot exhibition space in Peekskill. The unassuming, industrial exterior hides an array of modern and innovative artwork, from 2-D works to multimedia pieces. Most recently, the organization received a revitalization grant to install light-emitting sculptures on the Peekskill riverfront.
