North America

Portland, Ore., is a small town with a big love for beer. The Pacific Northwest as a whole is a beer lover’s paradise, with Portland offering some of the best options for locally brewed suds. Portland’s brewers are constantly pushing the envelope, offering a wide array of interesting beers.

Upright Brewing

Upright Brewing, located in a basement, is a bit hard to find, but worth the effort. Upright’s farmhouse style beers are inspired by those of Belgium and France, but brewed with a distinctive voice. And you’ll sip them right on the brewery floor.

The Commons

The Commons, with its pilsners and sours, takes a wine-like approach to beer. There’s always something interesting and new on tap here.

Cascade Brewing Barrel House

Cascade Brewing Barrel House specializes in barrel-aged beers that are often extremely tart. These guys helped kick off the Northwest’s sour beer movement, earning worldwide respect in that category.

Ex Novo Brewing

Ex Novo Brewing creates an exciting line-up of lagers and other beers, all in a non-profit format that donates all net profits to charity.

Baerlic Brewing

Baerlic Brewing takes beer back to the fundamentals, creating excellent beers with great ingredients. What’s best, they’re approachable and not too high-minded.
