Summer heat already getting the best of you? Don’t you remember when we are all complaining of the snow and never-ending Nor’easters? Regardless, if you just have to get away and get a little bit on the chilly side, these are the Top 5 destinations for snow in the summer.

Mt. Hood, Ore.

A short drive from Portland, this destination in Oregon boasts the longest ski season in North America, with snow sports occurring through Labor Day. The Timberline Lodge & Ski Area is home to the only year-round lift-served terrain in the United States.

Argentina

While the Northern Hemisphere is having fun in the sun, the Southern Hemisphere is chilling down for the winter. Argentina offers lots of outdoor snow-centric activities, but it’s also perfect for picturesque landscapes of all types, wherever you happen to be in the Andes Mountains.

Australia

Perhaps you crave the snow, but your traveling companions, not so much? If that’s the case, Australia offers the best of both worlds. There are small areas of the country with a high altitude, retaining a snowpack in the summer months, June–August. After you’re done hitting the slopes, you can head just a few hours away for sunshine and surfing.

Austria

In Austria, you’ll find Hintertux, a ski resort open 365 days per year, with high-altitude summer skiing and snowboarding near Innsbruck. Enjoy skiing for all levels, as well as high-quality slopes favorited by professional ski teams from all around the world.

Japan

A late-season snow haven, Gassan, a resort in Japan, doesn’t even open its slopes until mid-April, its season lasting through late July. This intimate getaway on the archipelago is a unique spot that won’t be overrun with international tourists.
