Maybe clubs aren’t your thing, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want to dance. For an outdoor extravaganza under the night sky, check out one of these world-famous locations for full moon partying.
Magnetic Island, Australia
Being so close to Indonesia and Thailand, this party makes sense for all the visitors from Australia wanting to host their own version of a full moon party. Magnetic Island is located 20 minutes away from Townsville by ferry, making it a great escape for visitors who don’t want to go inland.
Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand
Inspired by The Beach, millions of backpackers, tourists and hippies have been congregating on Ko Pha Ngan for its infamous partying. Legend says a group of friends threw a birthday party under a full moon sometime in the mid-80s, returning to the same spot every year until it grew from a small gathering into a rave-version of Disneyland.
Montañita, Ecuador
If you want to go somewhere with less people and more of a relaxed atmosphere, check out Montañita, Ecuador. By day, it looks like a sleepy surf town with cheap food and beautiful beaches. At night the music starts to blast along the coast and, every full moon, the town swells in size for a high-energy, yet intimate extravaganza.
Goa, India
Ko Pha Ngan is the most famous, but if you want to see where it all started, head to Anjuna Beach in Goa, India. Once a hippie enclave for Western expatriates, Anjuna was the place that birthed psychedelic trance, the unofficial soundtrack of full moon parties around the world.
Zanzibar, Tanzania
Tanzania is a fantastic destination for its natural beauty, and now it has nightlife to match. Kendwa Beach hosts a full moon party every Saturday closest to the full moon.
