Puebla is famous for being the largest and best-preserved Baroque city in the Americas, and there are lots of museums to visit. Here are some of the best.
Come here to see a huge collection of artifacts from Olmec, Aztec and other pre-Hispanic civilizations. It’s seriously impressive and many of the displays are in English and Spanish.
Museo Regional de la Revolución Mexicana
Historians place Puebla as the city where the Mexican Revolution began, when the Serdán family planned a revolt against President Porfirio Diaz. They were ultimately disarmed in a bloody shootout in 1910, but the episode sparked a revolution that was ultimately successful.
Museo Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Mexicanos
Train lovers won’t want to miss this museum, which studies and preserves Mexico’s railroad heritage. It sits on beautiful grounds that make it even more worth a visit.
Housed in a renovated colonial house, this museum has two floors. The first tells the story of the Spanish conquest, and the second has a collection of paintings, furniture and household items.
Museo José Luis Bello y González
This place holds the art-and-crafts collection of the industrialist Bello family of the 19th century. There are impressive collections of porcelain and Puebla Talavera pottery.
