With Cinque Terre’s newly implemented annual tourist cap of 1.5 million people, travel north instead to the equally beautiful seaside town of Portofino. Colorful buildings and cliff-side hikes abound along the Adriatic coastline.
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
When seeking a city of charming canals, opt for Amsterdam instead of the selfie stick invasion that has been taking over Venice, Italy. Springtime in the Netherlands is complete with the nation’s signature tulips and hours of biking trails.
Padua, Italy
Speaking of the crowded canals and overpriced attractions of Venice, the nearby town of Padua is a charming respite set in Italy’s quaint countryside. Girona, Spain
Approximately one hour north of the busy Catalan capital of Barcelona is its less visited but just as beautiful neighbor, Girona. Step back in time among medieval churches and buildings throughout the city’s Old Quarter, and enjoy extra breathing room might not find among the crowds in Barcelona.
