Phnom Penh has more places to eat than to shop it seems, so it’s hard choosing the right place. Here are five restaurants you should seriously consider.
Malis
Malis is great on two fronts: the food is excellent and also healthy. It’s one of the few restaurants in the city free of MSG, if that’s important to you. The atmosphere is classy and romantic, and the fish amok is to die for.
Friends the Restaurant
No, it’s not a diner playing homage to the popular TV show. It’s actually a restaurant focused on training young men and women for jobs in the food industry while also serving up delicious meals. The meals are tapas style and you can’t go wrong with any choice, but the portions are a bit on the small side.
Mok Mony
Mok Mony is an excellent choice due in part to their large menu of options. It’s easily one of the best places in town to enjoy a vegetarian meal, though it has choices for those meat eaters in the family too.
Romdeng
Eclectic might be putting it lightly when describing the atmosphere at Romdeng; the place has a its own pool for diners to swim in! Much like Friends, Romdeng has a strong focus on training students for careers. Here you’ll find them cooking up dishes of traditional Khmer food, including ants and spiders.
Topaz
Phnom Penh is steeped in French influence, and Topaz is a shining example of the country’s delicious food mixed with Asian flair. You’ll find lobster bisque and lamb all for a surprisingly affordable price you won’t get back home. The décor is more on the upscale side, but you won’t break the bank eating here.
