Trends / Adventure

Tracking rhinos across the unsullied landscape of Namibia’s Palmwag Concession is one of the greatest adventures in Africa. The region is home to the largest free-roaming black rhino population in the world and covers a span of 450,000 hectares. It’s the perfect way to explore the understated beauty of one of the continent’s most spectacular countries.

Desert Rhino Camp serves as an outpost for adventures looking to engage in safe, wildlife-friendly rhino tracking. The encampment consists of eight Meru-style canvas tents set amit the rocky hills laid out before the Etendeka Mountains. The camp also features a lounge area with panoramic views and a swimming pool when you need to cool off after a long trek.

They offer rhino tracking adventures on either foot or car, along with a wealth of other wonderful opportunities. You can enjoy a guided nature walk to discover some of the country’s smaller residents or participate in a big game drive where you’ll likely spot elephants, zebras and giraffes. Bird watching is also popular in the region and the Palmwag Concession is home to aerial creatures like Verreauxs eagles, long-billed larks and Rüppell’s korhaan.

Tracking rhinos in Namibia is easily one of the best ways to soak in the beautiful, arid landscape of the country while also catching glimpses of Africa’s most famous creatures. Head over to the Desert Rhino Camp for more information on available dates and how to book.
