Always dreamed of staying in an Arctic igloo, a tropical treehouse or a North Atlantic lighthouse? Hotels and resorts are nice, but untraditional lodging is entering the travel landscape as a unique and authentic way to experience a destination. Hovelstay.com is an option for those seeking less-than-luxurious travel accommodations.
The hovels (defined on the website as small, very humble dwelling houses) are categorized by level of comfort, from Survivor Hovels to Good Enough to Clean & Comfortable. Search by locations that span the globe and enjoy lengths of stay from two nights to months at a time.
Nothing is off-limits when it comes to hovels. Anything you can possibly imagine can be submitted as a hovel, even a hay bale next to a horse’s stable. The owners construct a customized bed size out of hay starting at $12 per night.
Hovels are listed by authorized owners who agree to contracts and provide their own terms and conditions. After you have searched for and selected your hovel of interest, you are put in direct contact with the hovel’s owners so you can ask questions or request more photos before you commit. Once you are ready to reserve, you may do so directly on the website.
If you have a spare tent or a tree house that is not in use, you can rent it to travelers on Hovelstay!
