Tips / Travel

Sleeping on plane can seem like an impossible task, especially if you’re not accustomed to sleeping upright. Next time you’re on a long flight, try out a few of these tricks to see if they help.

Spritz Your Pillow

It’s a scientific fact that some smells are relaxing. Next time you’re hopping on a plane, spritz your pillow with a little bit of lavender to help lull yourself into a relaxing sleep.

Listen to a Bedtime Story

Hook yourself up to the in-flight WiFi and explore the wonders of YouTube next time you’re having trouble getting some rest on a trip. There are loads of channels that provide relaxing music, bedtime stories or gentle whispers to help you nod off. Give it a shot.

Do Some Yoga

We don’t recommend you stretch out in the aisle for a downward dog in the middle of your flight, but doing a little yoga before you board the plane is a great way to get your body to relax. Doing so could also help you fall asleep in a less than comfortable position.

Rotate Your Pillow

Neck pillows are supposed to provide comfort, but they’re actually not designed for the task. Turn your pillow around so the closed portion of the U is in front of your neck, not behind. This will more accurately catch your head when it lolls forward on the flight.

Gorge Yourself

While you want to avoid alcohol and caffeine, carbs are actually a great way to wear yourself out. That’s why you always seem to need a nap after shoveling down some comfort foods. Fill your stomach with carb-heavy food an hour before your flight.
