These days, with the popularity of rental sites like Airbnb, it seems the options are more numerous and exciting.
Take this holiday home in Australia, for example: It combines an incredible location with an interesting design. The vacation rental is made entirely out of shipping containers.
Three shipping containers have been repurposed into a house set on stilts in a steep slope near the Wye River on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The modern, minimalist interior offers large windows and a balcony with incredible forest and ocean views. The home, House 28, is clearly designed to set off the surroundings rather than detract from them.
The containers each measure 20 feet. Two form the living space with a bathroom, laundry area, and entryway. The third includes a sleeping wing with two bedrooms, a second bathroom and a shower. The home also features a green roof with native plants that add insulation and filter rainwater.
