Two Weeks in Central Mexico

Mexico is a vast country with so much to see. Instead of jetting around trying to cram too much into a limited time, focus on the center of the country for a two-week holiday.

Start in Mexico City and spend two days exploring the metropolis, with its museums, galleries and fascinating markets. You could easily spend two weeks here, but travel to the charming mountain town of Guanajuato on day three.

Visit the Mummy Museum, where you can see preserved bodies from the city cemetery, hang out in the squares and follow local bands as they parade through the streets on famous party tours. From here, head to Mexico’s second-biggest city, Guadalajara, and visit the birthplace of mariachi band culture in Tlaquepaque.

Take a day to explore the town of Tequila, home of Mexico’s most famous export, to see how the drink is made. Buy a few bottles to take with you to Sayulita, a surf town on the Pacific coast where you can hit the waves and go whale watching December–March.

Spend a few days in Puerto Vallarta, relaxing and watching the famous sunsets, before flying back to Mexico City for a last day of sightseeing and souvenir shopping.
