A new survey showed which airports in the United States ranked highest for customer satisfaction. The rankings from research firm J.D. Power showed Portland International Airport in Oregon to be the nation’s best large airport, and Tampa International in Florida a close second.
Las Vegas McCarran Airport, which recently broke its own passenger records while managing traffic through new technology like self-service passport control kiosks, ranked third.
The study looked at 2016 customer satisfaction data for some of the country’s biggest airports, finding that “even with an increased number of travelers moving through airports — many of which are not designed for the volume of people and flights they now support — satisfaction with their airport experience is improving.”
Among the lowest ranked airports was New York LaGuardia, which came in last place. Michael Taylor of J.D. Power said, “Many airports, especially the nation’s largest airports, were never built to handle the current volume of traveler traffic, often exceeding their design limits by many millions of passengers. Yet airports are overcoming infrastructure limits by affecting the things they can influence … applying technology to improve check-in, security screening, and the food, beverage and retail shopping experiences.”
