Under $100 / Africa

Let’s be quite clear, there is only one place to go for breakfast in Cape Town, and that is the Market on the Wharf. Grab yourself a cup of coffee, take a lap or two and return to what you view as your best option with the understanding you will also be shopping for lunch because we’re headed out of town a bit for our afternoon to enjoy the natural beauty of Cape Town. While lunch offerings are a bit more global, you’ll have no trouble finding what you crave for breakfast, while working your way through the other 100 odd permanent stalls to craft your picnic lunch. Speaking of craft, don’t be afraid to bring a cooler for your finds and throw in a couple of bottles of Cape Town’s many craft beer offerings for lunch as you head up Table Mountain.

Yes, it is indeed cliché, but it doesn’t change the fact an aerial trip up Table Mountain is a must. Yes, there will be lines. Now, you’ve already bought your tickets in advance to skip most of the line, but be prepared to wait a little shy of an hour before you take this amazing trip up that hosts unparalleled views of Cape Town’s surroundings. Use the Red Bus trip to ready your picnic and have a beer and your lunch as you inch toward the tram that will deliver you.

Once back in Cape Town, dinner will prove necessary as well as a few after dinner drinks. Do it in the same place.

Spending less than $100 is a bit tough in Cape Town and, consequently, we’ll close it at The Village Idiot where appropriate as you scrape for change to stay under the goal. Thing is they have a great burger, reasonably cheap beer and before walking in, you were fairly flush. Now, you’ll walk out broke but will have enjoyed fantastic music in a quirky bar and your bed beckons.
