Under $100 / North America

Start your day with a stroll through downtown Concord and stop by Memorial Garden. The 200-year-old cemetery is more spectacular than spooky and offers free entry. Enjoy the stone walkways, abundant landscaping, hidden stone benches and fountains.

Then, it’s time to tour a Concord staple — Charlotte Motor Speedway. If you’re not in town for a racing event, this tour is an absolute must on your itinerary to see how some of the premier events in racing go down. Tour the entire complex with the Over the Wall, two-hour tour. You’ll be shuttled across the expansive operation and see not only the speedway, but the nearby drag way and dirt track as well. Tickets are just $20 per person.

Grab some Carolina barbecue for lunch at The Smoke Pit. The small restaurant is located next door to a butcher shop, where it sources all its meats. Your lunch will be around $15 on average, but it’ll be more than enough for maybe even two people! Trays are piled high with the barbecued meat of your choice and served alongside heaping portions of Southern-style sides, like fried okra and potato salad.

Let your lunch settle with a little bit of shopping. The Depot at Gibson Mill is an antique mall situated inside a historic textile mill and it’s 88,000 square feet of antique-filled space. Floor to ceiling, you can spot amazing finds at every turn, from decor to clothing and vintage-style postcards to old tools. You could easily spend hours browsing the aisles.

However, you’ll want to head next door to two breweries for tastings and some afternoon drinks. High Branch Brewing Co. offers unique craft brews suitable for “beer geeks” or just those open to trying something a little different than what you might find at your average party. The stylish atmosphere features a barrel room where you can sip your choice right next to the fermenting brews. Cabarrus Brewing Company has a more expansive bar hall feel and a selection for every taste. Try a flight and sit at one of the outside picnic tables, where you can enjoy live music on the weekends and even pick up a snack or two from one of the local food trucks.

For dinner, return to downtown Concord to try Havana Carolina Restaurant & Bar. The menu is filled with classic Cuban staples that will leave you stuffed, but still wishing you could eat more. Save a little room, though. After dinner, you’ll want to head back to the shops on Concord’s main thoroughfare and pick up a sweet treat, whether you prefer ice cream from Cabarrus Creamery or chocolate at Chocolatier Barrucand. Dinner and dessert will only set you back around $30, even if you go all out.
