Missoula rests at the southern end of the Flathead Valley, a wondrous region of lakes, open expanses of prairie and plenty of mountains. Missoula is an inviting small town with plenty to keep you busy in between bouts of outdoors activities in the area.
Start your day at Catalyst Café, with some of the city’s best coffee and generously portioned breakfasts. Expect to spend $15 on food and coffee.
Next, engross yourself at the fascinating Smokejumper Visitor Center, where you’ll learn about the fascinating job of aerial firefighting. Admission here is free.

Plan lunch downtown, at any number of outstanding restaurants in the area. Favorites include Biga Pizza and Tamarack Brewing, where you’ll probably spend around $15.
Then, consider touring some local breweries or wineries. You can fork over the $49 for a hop-on tour with Missoula Brewery Tours, or hit up local spots on a self-guided excursion.
End your day at Notorious P.I.G., where outstanding barbecue draws a crowd. Don’t let the line scare you away though; things move fast and the short wait is well worth it. You’ll be stuffed for your remaining $20.
