Punta Cana is a Dominican destination that’s a favorite for Caribbean weddings and nightlife enthusiasts. Typically a resort town, there are still plenty of things to do off your resort’s property.
Get away from the hotel-lined beaches and see unspoiled sands with a quick boat trip to Isla Saona. The island is off the Dominican’s southern coast, and is perfectly untouched by resort brands and tourist attractions.
If you want to get away from the sand, visit Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve. More than 10 trails wind their way through luscious rainforest, intersecting with many small waterways, falls and lagoons. You’ll definitely want to bring your bathing suit to go for a dip.
Go to Los Haitises National Park for rappelling through a cave that’s also home to an extensive river system. Guided tours will show you all the best spots to see, as well as where to find the ancient petroglyphs adorning the walls.
Many travelers staying in the Punta Cana area enjoy restaurants at the various all-inclusive resorts. However, you can easily grab breakfast, lunch or dinner at several local restaurants. Jellyfish is one of the most popular eateries on the island. Sit right on the sand on low couches and cushions and enjoy a menu filled with seafood. Or visit a popular island bakery, Las Leñas, for a strong cup of coffee and traditional pastries.
