Tackling Tuscany on a budget might seem impossible, but you’ve just got to know where to look. Avoid the tourist trap that is San Gimignano or Florence and spend a day in beautiful Siena.
Siena is one of the Europe’s most well preserved medieval towns, so lodging can be a unique experience. Thankfully, due to the sparse accommodations you’re likely to find here, many of the rooms will be under 60 euros. It’s in your best interest to find one that serves free breakfast, as well.
Siena is situated dead in the middle of Tuscany’s wine country and you’re going to want to take a tour. Instead of paying a hefty fee, consider purchasing a map from the tourist office for under 10 euros. Heck, this is the Internet age so you can probably find one online for free.
Afterward, Archivio di Stato is a wonderful place to take in the arts and is often free to the public if you can get there early enough.
When it comes time to eat avoid the wealth of delis around the city as they’ll cost you a pretty penny. Instead, La Prosciutteria offers great lunches for about 5 euros.
Once you’ve filled your belly, it’s time to view some of Siena’s spectacular designs. The Piazza del Duomo is home to some fantastic architecture and the creative hotspot in Siena. You can usually gain access for around 10 euros, so be sure to stop in for a peek.
Before you leave, for a true Italian dinner at a bargain price head over to Gino Cacino di Angelo. Here you’ll receive a delicious, hearty meal for less thanJune 7 Under $100 11 euros before heading toward the next leg of your journey.
