If you’re a frequent United Airlines traveler and/or your home airport is George Bush Intercontinental in Houston, there’s great news coming your way in 2024. United is revamping its Houston hub with $2.6 billion in renovations and expansions, plus new service.

In November, United announced it would expand 40 gates at the airport in order to accommodate larger aircraft, which will eventually allow for more passengers to fly out of the hub by as much as a 40 percent increase in 2026 compared to 2023. As part of United’s Terminal B expansion, it will add a three-level, 765,000-square-foot concourse with 22 gates, while converting 30 existing gates into 18 larger gates. The space will include 115,000 square feet of food and retail space, as well as the largest United Club to date.

Travelers will be able to enjoy all this and more when flying on newly announced service from United, from Houston, such as the newly announced non-stop route between Houston and Georgetown, Guyana (GEO) — the first such service. As of March, United will have increased its flights from Houston by 25 percent, year over year.

“Houston is a premier, world-class destination deserving of a state-of-the-art facility to welcome individuals traveling to our city,” said Sylvester Turner, mayor, Houston. “The expansion of Terminal B is physical proof of United’s ongoing commitment to the economic vitality of the City of Houston. We are grateful for United, one of the city’s largest employers, for creating nearly 4,000 new jobs for our community and enhancing the growing demand for domestic and international travel globally.”

Sail on a Recently Revamped Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

At one point, the Royal Caribbean Oasis-class ships were the largest in the world. While that’s not the case any longer (other Royal Caribbean ships have surpassed them), these ships are still pretty impressive — and, with recent renovations, they’re becoming even more so, as can be seen with the revamped Allure of the Seas. Ready to set sail in April 2025 with a bevy of new features, the ship is getting a $100 million makeover.
