Under a new decree signed Nov. 3, 2025, Americans traveling with valid U.S. passports are now (as of Jan. 1, 2026) able to stay in Uzbekistan visa-free for up to 30 days. This long-awaited move has now opened the heart of the Silk Road to a new wave of travelers. And it seems travelers are ready: The experts at Wild Frontiers, a tour operator specializing in adventure travel, have seen U.S. bookings to the Silk Road region surge with Uzbekistan leading that growth. As of mid-December 2025, bookings to Uzbekistan were up 20 percent year on year, while Silk Road bookings overall were up 25 percent.
Uzbekistan offers seamless, visa-free travel access; a unique cultural journey and historic Silk Road heritage; dramatic and diverse landscapes, including deserts, fertile valleys and river oases; UNESCO World Heritage sites like Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva; and a perfect location for Central Asian travel.
“The introduction of visa-free access for U.S. citizens marks a turning point for Central Asia tourism,” said Clare Tobin, CEO, Wild Frontiers. “For many American travelers, Uzbekistan is the perfect gateway into the heart of the Silk Road – a region rich in history, culture and landscapes, yet still relatively undiscovered. With our expert local teams and thoughtfully curated itineraries, we’re ready to offer unforgettable, meaningful travel experiences.’
Wild Frontiers offers the following tours:
- Uzbekistan: Land of Silk Road Treasures, an introduction to Uzbekistan’s Silk Road cities
- Complete Uzbekistan, offering deeper immersion
- Kyrgyzstan & Uzbekistan: Mountains and Cities of the Silk Road, combining mountain scenery and Silk Road cities for a cross-border journey
