Visit McCarter Theatre

Located in Princeton, N.J., McCarter Theatre offers world-class theater, music, dance and other performances throughout the year. The non-profit organization is located on the Princeton University campus, and often collaborates with the university on special initiatives.

The company opened in 1930 as part of Princeton University and quickly gained a reputation for presenting high-caliber performances. Many famous works debuted at McCarter before heading to Broadway. The center became a separate entity in 1973.

McCarter operates through four different facets: theater series, presented series, McCarter LAB and education and engagement. The theater series presents quality theater performances during its annual seasonal offerings including new and classic works. The presented series offers a mix of innovative performances and cultural attractions including concerts and dance. The McCarter LAB functions as an incubator for artists developing work at all stages of their careers. The education program offers after-school, in-school, student matinees, community partnerships and audience engagement programs all dedicated to fostering a love and appreciation of theater and performance in the next generation.

McCarter is dedicated to engaging and educating a wide range of audiences and making the arts accessible to all people.
