Whether you are a photographer, drone pilot or smartphone user, it can be difficult to stop your devices running out of battery on longer trips. Portable battery packs are an option for smaller pieces of kit, but they then run out of charge themselves. These two backpacks solve that problem thanks to a solar panel linked to a battery pack.
Voltaic’s larger Array backpack boasts 10 watts of power and a 19,800 mAh battery pack. This is enough to charge laptops and drones as well as smaller devices such as cameras and smartphones.
In comparison, the Offgrid pack has 6 watts of power and a 4,000 mAh battery. You won’t be able to charge laptops or drones, but smaller devices are compatible.
The packs look like standard pieces of luggage, apart from the solar panels fixed to the back. Both packs are well designed, with thoughtful features that make storage and charging as easy as possible.
Both the Array and the Offgrid have 25 liters of carrying capacity. This is the perfect size for a daypack, with enough room for your daily essentials.
You can also choose to add on certain features, such as an upgraded battery for the Offgrid. Keen photographers may want to invest in the camera pack add-on, which keeps your DSLR and lenses safe.
The packs were subject to a successful Kickstarter campaign, during which the Offgrid sold for $149 and the Array sold for $279.
