Trends / Voluntourism

This year Earth Day falls on April 22. The annual event started in 1970 with the intention of demonstrating support for environmental initiatives. What better way to honor the event than by volunteering your time this Earth Day? We’ve rounded up some volunteer options around the country.

Earth Day Network

Each year the organization focuses on a different campaign. The 2018 initiative is to end plastic pollution. Visit the website to learn about how you can take action in your community and sign the petition (https://www.earthday.org/end-plastic-pollution-petition/) to show your support.

The Nature Conservatory

The charitable environmental organization aims to conserve the land and water we depend on. Use the website’s interactive map to search for volunteer opportunities in your state. There are options throughout the country.

VolunteerMatch.org

Search through the Earth Day events taking place nationwide at VolunteerMatch.org. The website matches volunteers with non-profit organizations that best fit the individual’s needs.

Care for Your Community

If you aren’t able to participate in an organized event this Earth Day, take some time to care for your community. Recycle items from your home. Plant flowers, vegetables, a tree or other flora in your yard. Research some ways you can reduce your carbon footprint. However big or small, your actions make a difference.
