This non-profit organization offers volunteer opportunities for travelers staying in the Mandore Guest House, located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The guesthouse is a great place for people interested in giving back who aren’t quite ready for a full voluntourism program. Marwar has projects available in farming and infrastructure, requiring two weeks of work while guests lodge in a family-run garden resort.

Teach For India

For those who want to make an impact and can make a long commitment, Teach For India’s fellowship program fights against education inequality with 910 fellows and 660 alumni working in nine low-income schools in cities across the country. The program has an application process and requires a two-year commitment to teach in their English-medium classes, covering 2^nd to 8^th standard English, Mathematics, History and Science.

Central Himalayan Rural Action Group

CHIRAG is based in the mountainous Kumaon region of northern India, where they work with rural communities on projects involving forestry, conservation, agriculture and animal husbandry. They also work in education and healthcare for young people in 200 villages across the Nainital, Bageshwar and Almora districts, covering subjects like English and information technology.
