Explore Nebraska’s Gold Rush History

Step back in time and learn about the state’s Gold Rush history. Drive along the Gold Rush Byway and cruise past natural landmarks like Courthouse and Jail Rocks. Stops along this route include sites like Carhenge, an unusual attraction of 29 vintage American cars forming a replica of Stonehenge; Chadron State Park; and Dobby’s Frontier Town, a turn-of-the-century Western Town with bootlegger cabins, a mercantile and post office.

Witness and Experience Outdoor Oddities on Western Nebraska

Ever heard of “tanking”? This Nebraska tradition involves floating down a river in a giant livestock tank, and you can try this yourself thanks to companies like Get Tanked, Tank Down the Elkhorn and Calamus Outfitters, who provide everything you need.

Learn about the State’s Pioneer and 19th-Century History

Lewis and Clark ventured through the state during their famous trip west, and you can learn all about their time in Nebraska at Lewis & Clark Visitor Center. Arbor Lodge State Historical Park, meanwhile, is home to a 19th-century mansion, which boasts a Tiffany skylight. The park also features an arboretum, Italian terraced garden, walking trails and more.
