What to Expect from a Stay at Le Capitole Hôtel, Québec City

Hotels

Situated in Old Québec and sharing a building with Theatre Capitole, Le Capitole Hotel provided a relaxing, upscale and convenient stay during my recent and first visit to Québec City.

Upon arrival at the property on a busy Friday evening, the valet process was easy and seamless. Check-in was likewise quick with little wait, and I found the property’s common spaces modern and stylish. Admittedly, though, the property’s layout isn’t the most straightforward. After taking an elevator up from the entrance to the lobby, one must traverse through the lobby, down a walkway offering views of the city, and to another set of elevators, which then take you to the guestrooms.

My Citadine Room, with a comfortable king bed, was plenty spacious for myself and my spouse, with enough floorspace to not feel cramped, a large wall of windows with city views, two comfy armchairs positioned at the windows, a small desk area and plenty of storage space. The bathroom was likewise spacious, with a large, enclosed rain shower.

Because I booked directly with the property, my booking came with complimentary daily breakfast at the hotel’s Ristorante Il Teatro. While normally not one to think much of this amenity, I was surprised at the complimentary dining experience’s quality. Guests could order from the restaurant’s full breakfast menu and everything but alcoholic beverages was included, as was gratuity.

I did revisit Ristorante Il Teatro for dinner on one evening. The restaurant serves an expansive Italian menu and is quite a popular option (another on-site restaurant, Bo, serves Southeast Asian cuisine). Reservations are recommended. However, unless you’re specifically in the mood for Italian or want a convenient on-site meal, you may want to search further afield for your dinner — Québec City offers a wealth of great dining options and many are within walking distance.

On that note, over my two days in Québec City, I found the property to be close to everything I wanted to do and see, without being directly adjacent to the city’s Place Royale historic center (one of the busiest areas of the city I saw during my stay). I was able to walk to all the major tourist attractions within 15 or 20 minutes, including some leisurely window shopping and photo opportunities.

Lastly, while I did not visit the hotel’s gym or pool during my stay, I did make a point to visit Clubby Bar, a chic spot below the lobby that was popular, but by no means “clubby.” Instead, I found a comfortable atmosphere where my spouse and I could easily talk and enjoy a few well-made cocktails.

All in all, Le Capitole Hôtel offers all the things you want from a great hotel stay: a spacious and comfortable guestroom, convenient location, fast and seamless service, and great food and drinks.
