Not so much of a naturally evolving district as it is a specifically designed destination, WOW Cultural District in Porto launched in 2020. A Portugal Project of National Interest, it’s a mostly wine-focused district located across the Douro River from Porto’s Old Town.
So, what can you expect if you swing by WOW during your next visit to Portugal?

To start, the district is home to six museums, exploring topics including the history of drinking; history of the Porto region; and all things wine, chocolate and cork. While cork may seem like an odd choice, Portugal is actually the world’s largest producer of the product, responsible for more than half of all cork across the globe.
A handful of restaurants and bars are also situated within the district, ranging from family-friendly eateries to brunch spots to seafood-focused restaurants to a steakhouse. Several retail stores are likewise open for shopping, including shops at various museums dedicated to those museums’ focuses, as well as pop-up shops.
