How do your summer travel plans align with those of the rest of the country? Expedia’s 2025 Summer Outlook can clue you in.
The travel brand analyzed search data to discover where travelers are headed and what kind of trips they’re preferring. It found Americans look forward to domestic trips and those that won’t require long-haul flights this summer. Popular U.S. destinations for the season include New York City, Miami, Chicago, Madison and San Juan.
Meanwhile, for international travel, short flights to Cancún, Aruba and Punta Cana are taking center stage. For those okay with traveling a little further afield, off-peak destinations like Cairns, Australia; and Miyako, Japan, see a boost in interest. Additionally, some international destinations retain their popularity regardless of changing trends, as can be seen with the large number of Americans headed to Italy.
The report also looked at timeframes in which travelers are finding the best deals, as well as timeframes in which more travelers will be on the go. Expedia recommends traveling in late August for those looking for a deal, and notes late June and early July will be the priciest weeks of summer. Meanwhile, early to mid-June will be when most head out of the office.
