What You’re Going to Need If Staying in a Castle

Staying in a castle is an exciting experience. It’s not that often we get the chance to sleep or experience a bonafide ancient piece of construction. That being said, they are just that. Ancient. It’s not like sleeping over at a friend’s place or a hotel. If you’re staying in a castle that’s truly old and has been maintained to stay true to it’s character, you’re going to need a few things.

There are plenty of similar Celtic castles that have been restored and turned into hotels all around Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales.

But then, you might be considering something a little more authentic. In said countries, among others as well, there are ruins scattered all over the countryside. In County Wicklow, also in Ireland, there are dozens of ruins. Should you want a good camp out among the stars and ruins, Wicklow is the place to go.

Camping among ruins is an exciting and beautiful experience. All you really need is a decent tent, sleeping bags, firewood and a bit of know how. Some Irish whiskey will keep you warm, and a few foods for breakfast will guarantee you a great camp out. The only other thing you’ll need is the weather, so try this out in May or September for the best chance of a clear night and comfortable temperatures.
