The festive season of light and joy sounds like an ideal time to exchange nuptials, but not necessarily during an outdoor affair. While winter brings snow and cold, Brides.com advises couples who always dreamed about an outdoor ceremony not to fret over the weather but instead heed the following key tips in order to have a successful winter wedding ceremony.
“Warn your friends and family.”
Make sure all guests know the wedding is taking place outside so they come prepared with coats and winter accessories. If the event is taking place indoors after vows are exchanged, set up a coat check.
“Crank the heat up.”
After about 15 minutes of sitting outside in the cold, people may become uncomfortable, according to Jung Lee, lifestyle expert and event designer, Fete NY. “Heaters then become a good solution. Remember that some can be loud and others don’t provide warmth unless you’re in close proximity to them, however,” Lee told Brides.com.
“Provide blankets, wraps or both for guests.”
Keep everyone attending warm with soft, big blankets. Set up an area with materials for guests to warm up pre- or post-ceremony, such as a rustic fire pit or modern fireplace.
“Embrace warm drinks.”
Keep guests warm with toasty beverages like hot chocolate, cider, hot toddies and mulled wine.
